Solo Artist goes Solo!!

Solo Artist goes Solo!!
So what does it mean when a solo artist "goes solo"? I guess it would kind of be like throwing a big tantrum and deciding to walk out on yourself, eh?! Well yesterday I took this big step, but there were no diva-like temper tantrums involved and it didn't take place in the recording studio but on the runway...

Many of you may not know that my second love, after songwriting, is aviation. Inspired to fly shortly after arriving in America for the first time, I have been taking lessons off and on again for the past three years and have finally resolved to get my pilot's license. And yesterday I came one major step closer to this goal by taking my first solo flight! And though I'm not one to brag, I couldn't help but post about it here - it's the closest I could come to screaming it from the rooftops. It is official: I can now fly a airplane! SOLO!

Here's how it went down: after finally nailing a few landings at my last lesson  (I've been flying in a Piper Warrior under the instruction of the brilliant Steve Sullivan) Steve spontaneously suggested I go for my Solo. Since this is something I've been preparing and studying for for months now, I initially thought he was joking - surely I'd have more time to prepare for this huge event. But no, he was deadly serious. So I went for it!

Sitting in that plane, alone behind the yoke, was the most nervous I have ever been in my life - and that's saying a lot since as a live performer, it's safe to say that i've been pretty nervous before. If you're looking for a clean and healthy rush, aviation is the way to go. More importantly, I have the feeling that I have accomplished something immense and can't wait for my next flight.

How I'm going to incorporate this into the music? I don't know, but what I do know is that flying will be in my blood forever so it's sure to evoke some new music ideas. I can already feel the inspiration coming on...
